 Deborah Shaw

Deborah grew up in Southern California and began playing clarinet in her school band in the 7th grade.  She went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education at California State University Long Beach where she was in the Big Brown Music Machine and marched in the Rose Parade.  She taught middle school band in Torrance and was the director of the Torrance Scarlet Cadets.  She later moved to Arkansas and earned her Master’s Degree from the University of Arkansas and has recently retired from teaching middle school band in Rogers, Arkansas. 

 

She has also been very active in her church music ministries throughout the years, including children’s music ministries, and directing the church orchestra at FBC Rogers for 9 years and the orchestra at FBC Centerton for 2 years.

Throughout her life Deborah has been an active performer, both on clarinet (which is her primary instrument) and other woodwinds.  She has been a member of the North Arkansas Symphony Orchestra where she served as Musician’s rep on the board.  She was also principal clarinetist for the Benton County Civic orchestra for 8 years.  She has played many musicals, including shows for Arkansas Public Theater, Arts Center of the Ozarks, and other freelance performances.  In addition to being a member of Jubilation Jazz, Deborah is a member of the Arkansas Winds Community Concert band, Bell Clar Clarinet Quartet, Opus 3 and NWA Jazz and More Orchestra.
